去年 11 月，我把⟪Apple 開發者電子報⟫從週報改成不定期發刊，到現在快半年了。回頭來看，我覺得每週固定發刊比較好。

我觀察到自己有種──毛病？就是，看到一些重要消息時，都會有種「這件事情很重要，需要讓大家知道」的衝動。

而且，當我跟一些開發者互動、發現他們不知道那些重要消息時，我就會覺得「如果我有多宣傳一點就好了」。

很奇怪吧。

總之，隨興發刊的方式，是沒辦法做到我想要的傳遞效果的。所以，我還是覺得維持固定頻率，甚至每週發刊，是比較好的經營形式。

不過，之前在宣布改變頻率的時候也說過，整理週報內容，對我來說是偏機械化、無聊的事情。想傳達重要消息的心情，跟寫作熱情，對我來說還是兩回事。

想來想去，我覺得能做出的折衷方案，就是縮減內容的形式。未來週報會用列點、日期、連結、一句話來呈現開發者新知。

而關於重要事件的評論、補充資料、幕後花絮，我會保留給 13+ 會員。

除了一直都有在進行的寫作以外，今年我想要加倍投入的就是軟體教育。

自從 Xcode 26.3 推出以來，我就一直在使用它的 Agentic Coding 功能。以開發 iOS app 來說，並不輸給直接使用 Codex 或 Claude Code 的官方 app。實際上 Xcode 也是使用這兩家的 agent SDK。

（我甚至在這學期的臺大 iOS Club 第一堂課就以「iOS 開發的時代變了」這個名稱來宣告。）

iOS 開發的未來與軟體教育

有些人認為，在 AI 時代，許多軟體將會是「給 AI 使用」。觀察 Agent 現在已經能做到的事情，我不反對這樣的看法。

但是，身為 iOS 開發者，我覺得 iOS 還有很多題目可以做。

因為 mobile apps 仍然是人們最常直接使用的軟體。大部分人們日常生活用的 apps 也仍有許多 UX 的改進空間。

這一部分觀察是來自，擔任學生開發者比賽時，看到很多有創意的 apps。學生為了做出作品，去訪談真實世界的商家、醫院、學校、單位，找到許多能夠被軟體解決的實際需求。

所以，這讓我感覺到軟體教育是值得投入、具有長期價值的事。

去放大學生開發者用創意解決實際問題的機會、幫助他們從點子實踐到進入現實生活，我覺得會是很有意義的事情。

雖然不知道最終能夠影響多少人，但我應該不會後悔。

新聞一：Xcode 26.3 新增支援 Claude Code 與 OpenAI Codex 的 Agentic 開發能力，還可以反過來以 MCP 被 Agent 呼叫使用。最新的 GPT-Codex-5.3 或 Claude Opus 4.6 模型也可以透過替換 SDK 的方式使用。

Xcode 26.3

很久沒有發 13 報 | Apple 開發者電子報了。最近終於有值得報導的重大消息：Xcode 正式整合了 AI Agent 的開發能力。

這版跳過了 Beta，直接來到 RC，但仍有大量 Known Issues。請從 Release Notes 了解更多。

重要官方資訊：

• Meet agentic coding in Xcode：官方影片，不到 5 分鐘快速進入狀況

• Setting up coding intelligence：因為認證方式不同，需要與之前的 Xcode 26.0 的聊天模式分開登入，但是介面相同。文件上有提到這些 Agent 的環境設定位置。

• Writing code with intelligence in Xcode：操作方式介紹

• Giving external agentic coding tools access to Xcode：把 Xcode 變成工具給外部的 Agent 使用的方式

實際使用兩天下來，在 Xcode 內使用 Codex 開發有很高的實用性，不再需要外部工具或介面也可以完成功能。我目前唯一的小遺憾是，Agent 執行時，後續任務的訊息不能先打好送出。

如果已經開始使用的朋友，應該會發現要在 Xcode 下載 Codex 或 Claude Code。那最新版的 GPT-Codex-5.3 與 Claude Opus 4.6 模型要如何使用呢？可以透過替換與改設定的方式達成。

想要自行研究的朋友，我提示一個路徑：/Users/ethanhuang/Library/Developer/Xcode/CodingAssistant，也可以參考 Rudrank 的推文（Codex、Claude）。

印象中，這是我第一次見到 Apple 將開發工具深度整合第三方付費服務，似乎透露出 Apple 這間公司對於擁抱 AI 在軟體開發帶來的變化。更深入的個人見解，我分享在 13+ ⚡️速評 Xcode 26.3 Agent 功能與意義。

從開發者督促大會到 Podcast

從前年開始，我跟 Harry (@harryworld)、Jane(@janechao_dev)、Paul(@automorphism) 幾位朋友都有接觸到 Apple 開發相關的教學工作，所以變得熟識起來。

剛好我們幾位都沒有在公司上班，而是獨立開發者、內容創作者、講師，或是 Gap Year 中的組合。在因緣際會，我們成立了一個「互相督促小組」，每個禮拜都會線上開會（稱之為督促大會），聊聊自己最近在做的事情、目標，彼此提醒。

每個禮拜的督促大會開下來，常常有我們覺得「這段討論還滿適合當作 Podcast」的時刻。久而久之，做節目的想法就越來越明顯。

既然有這種想法，我也不是第一次做 Podcast，就約了大家一起試錄，也就有了年初的第 0 集節目，就是在講督促大會本身。

最近我一直在進行 iOS 開發的教學工作，累積了一些本地 AI 應用的探索經驗。比如在 iPhone 17 Pro Max 上實測，發現：Foundation Models 在 A19 Pro 上產出 token 比 MacBook M3 Max 還快約 25%。原因我會在之後的文章說明，但可以看到 Apple 的硬體效能進步對於本地 AI 推理有巨大優勢。

不光是硬體效能，用 iPhone 來跑本地 AI 還有許多玩點與前景。我想許多 iOS 開發者不想「為了 AI 而 AI」，又或是想加但不知如何入手。實際上，一些開發 AI 應用的形勢，在 Foundation Models 或 A19 Pro 推出之前根本不存在。從今天開始接觸，是跟全世界的開發者站在同樣的起跑線，不用擔心跟不上。就連我也是邊研究邊分享！

Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of iOS development teaching and have accumulated some experience exploring local AI applications. For instance, testing on iPhone 17 Pro Max revealed: Foundation Models generate tokens about 25% faster on A19 Pro than on MacBook M3 Max. I’ll explain the reasons in upcoming articles, but you can see that Apple’s hardware performance improvements have huge advantages for local AI inference.

Beyond hardware performance, running local AI on iPhones has many interesting aspects and prospects. I think many iOS developers don’t want to “do AI for AI’s sake,” or want to add it but don’t know how to start. In reality, some situations for developing AI applications simply didn’t exist before Foundation Models or A19 Pro were released. Starting today, you’re on the same starting line as developers worldwide—no need to worry about falling behind. Even I’m researching and sharing as I go!

I plan to write multiple articles covering:

Observed facts, testing methods and results, Apple’s advantages in local AI, issues with development experience and possible developments, and presenting a major insight: iOS developers are the group of people in the world with the best opportunity to create excellent local AI application user experiences, bar none.

The Mobile Application Innovation Contest (MAIC) is a student app development competition jointly organized by Apple Education Taiwan, Feng Chia University, Straight A (Studio A’s education brand), and National Taiwan University’s Apple Regional Training Center (RTC).

Competing apps are primarily built for Apple platforms, mostly iOS and visionOS. Think of this as Apple’s Greater China Region contest. After Taiwanese teams compete locally, they advance to the Greater China Region Finals at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou.

This year, Taiwanese students delivered their best performance ever at the Grand Finals:

• First Prize: VCook (Chung Yuan Christian University • VC)

• First Prize: iMirror Immersive Mirror Rehabilitation System (National Taiwan University • iMirror Lab)

• Second Prize + Social Responsibility Innovation Award: Savers Near-Expiry Product Map (National Tsing Hua University, National Central University • iNTER)

• Second Prize: Sound of Life (Feng Chia University • Sound of Life Team)

• Outstanding Organization Award: Feng Chia University

The demo videos below are all from the Taiwan competition. The Greater China Grand Finals should have newer, much improved versions, but I haven’t found them yet.

⟪VCook⟫is an AI recipe app independently developed by Vincent using the latest Foundation Models, now available on the App Store.

⟪iMirror⟫is mirror therapy software utilizing Apple Vision Pro’s gesture recognition capabilities, a very advanced concept. It also originates from actual needs of team members’ family, complete with a backstory.

⟪Savers Near-Expiry Product Map⟫strives to solve the problem of near-expiry food waste.

⟪Sound of Life⟫is learning software designed for hearing-impaired children.

I’ve had the privilege of interacting with these award-winning students—they’re all student developers with tremendous creativity and practical ability. I’m genuinely happy for them.

Swift Student Challenge 2026

While MAIC is a Greater China Region competition, Apple also has an international student coding challenge called Swift Student Challenge, now in its seventh year since 2020. Students aged 13 and above can participate (or according to local regulations).

Submission period: 2/6-28, 2026.

The most attractive aspect of Swift Student Challenge is that Distinguished Winners receive full sponsorship to visit Apple headquarters in the US for WWDC and closely interact with winners from around the world. It’s an excellent opportunity to expand your global perspective.

This competition emphasizes creativity, not code. You can develop using the Swift Playgrounds app on iPad.

The most important thing when entering a competition is understanding the rules clearly, followed by properly planning and executing your participation.

Swift Student Challenge has many restrictions. I’ve compiled some key rules below:

• Final product is a Swift Playground App (file extension .swiftpm) compressed into a ZIP

• Maximum file size is 25 MB

• Must work completely offline

• Solo independent development

• Developed and run using Swift Playgrounds 4.6 or Xcode 26 or above

• Can use Apple Pencil

• User interface and content must be in English

Sometimes, having many restrictions isn’t a bad thing—it helps you focus more on creative expression.

If you want to participate, there are still several months until the submission deadline. I think you can start with simple needs around you, completing some simple small apps and exercises to familiarize yourself with Xcode, Swift, SwiftUI, and establish your own development workflow.

While familiarizing yourself with the process, more ideas will definitely emerge. There are also many AI tools that can assist. Even starting development in the final month is manageable.

The key is creative ideas—development doesn’t need to be perfect on the first try.

行動應用創新賽（Mobile Application Innovation Contest, MAIC）是由 Apple Education Taiwan、逢甲大學、Straight A（Studio A 教育品牌），以及臺灣大學Apple 區域教育培訓中心（RTC），共同推動舉辦的學生 App 開發比賽。

Swift Student Challenge 2026

MAIC 是大中華區的比賽，而 Apple 還有一個國際學生程式挑戰賽叫做 Swift Student Challenge，從 2020 年起開始已經第七屆了。只要是 13 歲以上的學生就可以參加（或是依照各國的規定）。

作品上傳時間是 2026/2/6-28。

Swift Student Challenge 最吸引人的地方是 Distinguished Winners 能獲得全額補助去美國總部參加 WWDC，還能跟世界各地的得獎者密切交流。是一個打開全球視野的大好機會。

這個比賽強調創意，而不是程式碼。使用 iPad 上的 Swift Playground App 就可以開發。

參加比賽最重要的事情是看清楚規則，其次則是妥善安排參賽計畫與執行。

Swift Student Challenge 的限制很多，我把部分規則整理如下：

• 成品是 Swift Playground 的 App（副檔名為 .swiftpm）並且壓縮成 ZIP

• 檔案的大小最多 25 MB

• 要能夠全程離線使用

• 單人獨立開發

• 使用 Swift Playground 4.6 或 Xcode 26 以上開發與執行

有時，限制多不是壞事，可以更聚焦在創意的發揮。

如果你想要參加的話，現在到繳交時限還有好幾個月，我覺得可以從一些身邊簡單的需求開始做起，完成一些簡單的小 App、小練習，藉此熟悉 Xcode、Swift、SwiftUI，建立自己的開發流程。

在一邊熟悉的過程當中，肯定會有更多點子浮現。還有許多 AI 工具可以協助，最後一個月再開發也都來得及。

重點是創意想法，開發不需要追求一次到位。

前兩天我宣布了⟪13 報⟫與 ⟪13+⟫要進行整合，這篇報導就是第一篇。

簡單來說，我會不定期在⟪13 報⟫分享開發者新知，取消過往「週報」的形式。相同的文章，也會在⟪13+⟫發表，並且會有更深度的報導。想要閱讀完整版請到 Patreon 升級為⟪13+⟫會員。

切入正題。今年，我觀察到 Apple 正在重新定義「開發者活動」。從一年一度的大會，變成時間與地點分散的混合策略。就讓我們從 Apple 的 YouTube 頻道說起。

WWDC 影片的變化

從 WWDC20 開始，受到疫情的影響，Keynote 與技術 Session 都改成預錄影片的形式。即使疫情過後開放抽籤參加 Keynote，去 Cupertino 飛碟總部，也是在大草皮上準時看預錄的影片。

而到了今年 WWDC25，Apple 在活動第一天就把所有影片都公開。這是一個明顯的轉變。開發者可以快速找到自己有興趣的主題，趕緊進行嘗試、預約 Lab 問問題。

令我驚喜的是，今年 Apple 還把所有 WWDC 影片也一併上傳至 YouTube，不再只限於官網與 Developer App。對於影片的傳播、查找，以及播放體驗都有很大的提升。

像我有訂閱 YouTube Premium，所以沒有看到廣告的煩惱。另一方面，我還能下載大量影片到手機上離線觀看。這個功能，YouTube iOS App 做得比 Apple Developer App 好得多了。

放在 YouTube 也很方便嵌入網頁，例如作為教材使用。

線上活動與直播

參加過 WWDC19 之前的開發者（包括我）很懷念以前的實體研討會。從今年第一天就放出所有影片的策略來看，Apple 不可能再回到過往舉辦 WWDC 的形式了。

不過，近年來 Apple 開始在世界各地建立開發者中心，並且分時段舉辦線上與實體研討會。等於是把以前集中資源在一週的 WWDC，延伸成在各地舉辦短期小型活動的形式。

目前已有的開發者中心在美國 Cupertino 總部、印度邦加羅爾、新加坡、上海。也有一部分活動會在大城市的飯店或當地 Apple 辦公室舉辦。未來的活動，都可以在 Meet with Apple 官網找到。

我認為，Apple 之所以進行這樣的轉變，不只是因為「預錄影片好控制且能完美呈現」這種表面的理由。而是因為全球開發者群體的數量龐大，且地區差異性極大。在各地建立增進開發者關係的據點與活動，會比以往 WWDC 集中一週，會有更深遠的影響。

雖然這麼做，會讓 WWDC 年度盛會的感覺降低，但是我認為這種往「在地深耕」的策略是通往正確的方向。

總而言之，身為 Apple 開發者，我們可以多利用 Meet with Apple 上的活動來充實自己的技術知識、與 Apple 工程師對談、獲得設計或審查問題的意見。身為台灣開發者，我也期待 Apple 能在台灣多開闢一些開發者活動。

The other day I announced that ⟪13 Newsletter⟫ and ⟪13+⟫ would be integrated, and this report is the first one.

Simply put, I’ll share developer news irregularly in ⟪13 Newsletter⟫, abandoning the previous “weekly” format. The same articles will also be published in ⟪13+⟫ with more in-depth coverage. To read the complete version, please upgrade to ⟪13+⟫ membership on Patreon.

Now to the main topic. This year, I’ve observed that Apple is redefining “developer events.” From the annual conference format, it has evolved into a hybrid strategy distributed across time and location. Let’s start with Apple’s YouTube channel.

Changes in WWDC Videos

Starting with WWDC20, affected by the pandemic, both Keynotes and technical Sessions shifted to pre-recorded video format. Even after the pandemic when lottery-based Keynote attendance opened up—allowing people to visit the Cupertino spaceship campus—attendees would watch pre-recorded videos on the big lawn at the scheduled time.

By WWDC25 this year, Apple released all videos on the first day of the event. This was a significant shift. Developers could quickly find topics of interest and rush to experiment and book Lab sessions to ask questions.

What delighted me was that this year Apple also uploaded all WWDC videos to YouTube, no longer limiting them to the official website and Developer App. This significantly improved video distribution, searchability, and viewing experience.

For instance, since I subscribe to YouTube Premium, I don’t have to worry about ads. Moreover, I can download large numbers of videos to my phone for offline viewing. The YouTube iOS App does this much better than the Apple Developer App.

Hosting on YouTube also makes it convenient to embed in web pages, such as for educational materials.

Online Events and Live Streams

Developers who attended WWDC19 and earlier (including me) miss the old in-person conferences. Looking at this year’s strategy of releasing all videos on day one, Apple is unlikely to return to the previous format of hosting WWDC.

However, in recent years, Apple has started establishing Developer Centers around the world and hosting online and in-person seminars in different time slots. This essentially extends what used to be a week-long WWDC with concentrated resources into hosting short-term small events in various locations.

Current Developer Centers are located at Cupertino headquarters in the US, Bangalore in India, Singapore, and Shanghai. Some events are also held in hotels in major cities or local Apple offices. Future events can be found on the Meet with Apple official website.

I believe Apple’s transition isn’t just due to superficial reasons like “pre-recorded videos are controllable and can be presented perfectly.” Rather, it’s because the global developer community is massive with extreme regional differences. Establishing local touchpoints and activities to enhance developer relations will have a more far-reaching impact than the previous week-long concentrated WWDC.

While this approach diminishes the sense of WWDC as an annual grand event, I believe this “locally-rooted” strategy is moving in the right direction.

In summary, as Apple developers, we can make better use of events on Meet with Apple to enrich our technical knowledge, talk with Apple engineers, and get feedback on design or review issues. As a Taiwanese developer, I also hope Apple will host more developer events in Taiwan.

Collecting materials and writing the newsletter has become increasingly mechanical for me, lacking significant challenge.

On the other hand, since mid-August, I’ve been publishing a new article every weekday in the 13+ column. These contents are carefully thought out and organized outputs.

I still have passion for writing, but it’s currently not focused on the newsletter. And passion is the most precious thing for a creator.

The newsletter has accumulated 251 issues with over 2,800 subscribers and should have helped many people. I don’t want to terminate this newsletter just because my enthusiasm has waned.

I believe the right approach is to adjust the operation model to make it more interesting for me.

Abandoning Fixed Weekly Updates

So, how can writing the Apple Developer Weekly become interesting? The key is to have things I find fun and interesting, that I think are important for developers to know, plus my commentary and experience sharing.

To achieve this, I feel we can no longer continue with the “weekly” publication frequency.

Weekly publication comes with deadline time constraints, content is limited to the previous week’s news, and I don’t have time to research the news content. Over time, the reporting process becomes repetitive labor: collecting materials, organizing titles (including selecting emojis), writing supplementary text, formatting, and then scheduling publication.

If I could explore things without time pressure, I might be able to share some interesting discoveries. This would not only be more interesting for me but also provide readers with more than just surface-level news (Want to experience what “surface-level” means? Recent important developer news is listed at the end of this article).

Simply put, it’s about transforming “Apple Developer Weekly” into “Apple Developer News & Commentary,” without limiting it to the most recent week’s timeframe and topics.

In the future, the writing angle will focus more on:

• What recent Apple developer news is worth knowing?

• Why did I select this news, and why do I think it’s important for developers?

• How does it relate to perspectives or experiences I’ve written about?

Integration with 13+ Column

13+ Column is where my writing passion currently lies, publishing articles every day, almost transforming from a blog into an “Apple Developer Daily.”

However, the situation is a bit subtle. What do I mean? I write about iOS development-related topics every day, but the content rarely addresses “recent” iOS-related news, which seems somewhat unreasonable.

I think 13+ readers would also want to read my commentary and perspectives on some development current events.

So the answer becomes increasingly clear: I should integrate the two publications.

Let me research or analyze some interesting development current events and write them into articles. Part of the content remains free and will be published in the original ethanhuang13.com. More in-depth content will be reserved exclusively for 13+ (ethanhuang13.plus) paid members.

This way, existing newsletter readers will receive the “Apple Developer News & Commentary Newsletter” on an irregular basis (this name is too straightforward😅, I’m still thinking of a better one). The content will be important developer news I’ve selected, with my perspectives and commentary, even hands-on experience.

You can imagine it as current event commentary in the style of 13+ articles.

As for publication frequency, if there are many good things to discuss, publishing several pieces a week wouldn’t be unusual. But if there are no topics worth sharing, we’ll leave it.

Existing newsletter readers (including English version readers) don’t need to make any subscription adjustments.

And the enhanced extended version of this newsletter will be published on 13+, counting as one of the daily updates on 13+. The enhanced content I plan to include:

• More in-depth perspective discussions

• Code examples

• Complete supplementary materials

• Thought-provoking questions

• Action prompts

• Key takeaways

Simply put, if you’re not satisfied with the free version on ethanhuang13.com, you can upgrade to paid 13+ membership. (I don’t have an English version, though.)

Summary

After integrating the two newsletters, I expect the positioning to be:

• 13 (ethanhuang13.com): “Apple Developer News & Commentary” basic version, irregular updates, can be several pieces a week when there’s good stuff to discuss, or left alone when there’s nothing. Remains free subscription, existing members don’t need to make adjustments (but upgrades to 13+ for the complete version are very welcome)

• 13+ (ethanhuang13.plus): Paid subscription, unchanged with a new article every weekday, adding a new category of the complete version of “Apple Developer News & Commentary” with more in-depth discussions, materials, code examples, etc.

Integrating the two newsletter brands will allow me to concentrate my energy and passion on writing better content. For existing newsletter readers, you’ll get more valuable perspectives and experience sharing. 13+ readers will receive my commentary on recent developments with member-exclusive content.

整理素材、編寫週報，對我來說越來越像是個機械化操作，沒有太大的挑戰性。

另一方面，從 8 月中開始，我在 13+ 專欄每週一到五都有發表一篇新文章。內容都是仔細思考與整理的產出。

我有寫作的熱情，但目前不在週報上面。而熱情，對於創作者來說，是最寶貴的事物。

週報已經累積 252 期、超過 2,800 人訂閱，應該有幫到許多人。我沒有想要因為自己的熱情消退，而終止這份電子報。

我認為，正確的作法是調整經營方式，讓它變成對我來說更有趣的一件事情。

捨棄每週固定更新

那麼，編寫 Apple 開發者週報要怎麼變得有趣呢？重點在於，有我覺得好玩、有趣，並且認為值得開發者重視的新知，再加上我的評論與經驗分享。

要做到這點，我覺得不能再繼續採用「週報」的發表頻率。

每週發表會有截稿的時間限制，內容就只能僅限於前一週的消息，而且我沒有時間針對消息內容做研究。久而久之，報導的過程就是重複勞動：蒐集素材、整理標題（包括挑選 emoji）、寫一點補充文字、排版，然後排程發表。

如果我沒有時間壓力地去玩一玩，說不定就可以分享一些有趣的發現。這樣子對我來說不僅更有趣，對讀者來說也不會只看到新聞表面（想感受一下「表面」的意思嗎？本文最後列舉了近期的重要開發者消息）。

簡單來說，就是要把「Apple 開發者週報」轉變成「Apple 開發者新知與評論」，並且不限最近一週的時間與主題。

未來，撰寫角度會更放在：

• 最近有哪件值得知道的 Apple 開發者新知？

• 我為什麼會挑選這項新知、為什麼我覺得對開發者來說是重要的？

• 與我寫過的觀點或經驗，有什麼關聯？

與 13+ 專欄整合

13+ 專欄是我現在的寫作熱情所在，每天都發表文章，感覺快要從 blog 變成「Apple 開發者日報」了。

不過，情況有點微妙。怎麼說呢？我每天在寫跟 iOS 開發相關的文章，但是內容卻不太去談「最近」跟 iOS 相關的消息，顯得不太合理。

我覺得，13+ 的讀者應該也會想讀到我對一些開發時事的評論與觀點。

所以答案越來越明顯了：我應該整合兩個刊物。

讓我針對一些有趣的開發時事做研究或分析，寫成文章。一部分的內容維持免費，就在原本的 13 報（ethanhuang13.com）發表。比較深入的內容就只保留給 13+（ethanhuang13.plus）的付費會員。

這樣一來，原有的週報讀者，會變成不定期收到「Apple 開發者新知與評論電子報」（這名稱太直白了😅，我還在想一個更好的）。內容會是我挑選過的重要開發者消息，而且會有我的觀點評論，甚至踩坑經驗。

你可以想像成是 13+ 文章風格的時事評論。

至於發表頻率，如果有很多好東西能聊，一週發表數篇也不奇怪。而如果沒有值得分享的話題，就放著。

現有週報讀者（包括英文版的讀者）不需要採取任何訂閱方式的調整。

而這份電子報的延伸加強版，則會在 13+ 上面刊登，算是 13+ 每日更新的一篇。加強的內容我預計會有：

• 一句話帶著走

簡單來說，如果不滿足 13 報上的免費版本，就可以付費升級成 13+ 會員。

總結

我期待兩個電子報整合之後的定位是：

• 13 報（ethanhuang13.com）：「Apple 開發者新知與評論」基本版，不定期更新，有好東西能談可以一週數篇、沒東西聊就放著。維持免費訂閱，既有會員不需做調整（不過很歡迎升級到 13+ 取得完整版）

• 13+ （ethanhuang13.plus）：付費訂閱，不變的是每週一到五都有一篇新文章，其中包含「Apple 開發者新知與評論」的完整版，具有更深入的討論、資料、範例程式碼等

兩大電子報品牌整合，相信可以讓我集中精力與熱情，寫出更好的內容。對於原週報的讀者來說，可以得到更有價值的觀點、經驗談。13+ 的讀者則能獲得我對於近期新知的評論，而且有會員獨家內容。

The newsletter accidentally took a few weeks of vacation.

💻Apple Announces M5 Series Devices

Apple Silicon M5 chip, MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, Vision Pro were released without a launch event.

M5 significantly outperforms M4 in various computing benchmarks, and in specific scenarios can even compete with high-end chips like M1 Ultra, M3 Max, and M4 Pro. There’s no news yet about M5 Pro or M5 Max, but they’re highly anticipated.

🤖Announcing the Swift SDK for Android

Swift’s official Android SDK has been released and can be used on macOS, Linux, and Windows platforms.

There’s also the swift-java project for interoperability.

• Xcode 26.1 beta 3 (17B5045g) includes a fix for an SPM cache logic bug. It was supposed to not re-fetch before expiration (within 1 hour), but the > operator was reversed. Developers can observe how Xcode 26.1 performs when deployed to CI. Developer ZachNagengast not only identified the issue and submitted a PR, but also documented the detailed problem-solving approach in it, showing commendable spirit and attitude

In iOS 26.1 and later, PhotoKit provides a new Background Resource Upload extension type that enables photo apps to provide seamless cloud backup experiences. The system … calls your extension when it’s time to process uploads, and it automatically handles network connectivity, power management, and timing to provide reliable processing.

This new extension is for apps to backup photos in the background. It should be quite useful for third-party cloud storage or NAS apps with iOS photo backup functionality.

According to zonble, this was one of the topics he couldn’t present at this year’s iPlayground.

After reading it, I think: Could the master hacker have failed not because of the challenge, but because he was defeated by Taiwanese appetite?

Apple open-sourced Swift Profile Recorder, which allows understanding Swift app performance without special system privileges.

You can collect log files through curl. It supports multiple industry-standard formats and can integrate with existing visualization and analysis tools.

🔒 Secure your app with Memory Integrity Enforcement | Meet with Apple

The A19 chip series has a new memory security feature. If your app is of a type that’s easily attacked (e.g., messaging, social, browser), you can enable Hardware Memory Tagging in Xcode 26 to detect potential issues.

🎵James Dempsey’s New Song Liquid Glass

Senior engineer James Dempsey has written and performed many songs using various Apple technologies. This is his latest.

The intentionally incomprehensible lyrics are deliberate. Why? Just like when Liquid Glass first launched, there were some issues with text being unclear.

💼The Underdogs: BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) | Apple at Work

After years, Apple at Work has released a new commercial. This time it’s about Windows’ blue screen of death. Over 8 minutes long, but just as lively and entertaining as always.

📱How iPhone 4 “Fixed” Antennagate

Developer @samhenrigold dug into how Apple fixed “Antennagate”—the signal degradation caused by touching the iPhone 4 antenna seam with your finger.

The answer might be much simpler than you think. From iOS 4 to 4.0.1, they modified 20 bytes and “fixed it.”

Foundation Models changed a lot during beta, making the WWDC25 video outdated.

This week Apple released the latest Code Along video.

Bonus: Apple press release introducing many real-world app cases using Foundation Models.

Traditional Chinese Apple Intelligence is available in iOS 26.1 beta 1, making now a great time to get started with Foundation Models.

🚀Swift Transformers 1.0

The very night I published the article AI Models Need High-Speed Transfer, Hugging Face announced the official release of Swift Transformers 1.0 and outlined future development.

This package aims to reduce the hassle for developers using local AI models on Apple platforms, filling gaps in Core ML and MLX. It can be said to be an essential tool for running third-party open-source AI models on Apple platforms.

In my view, Swift Transformers and Foundation Models share similar essence—both make it easier for developers to use AI models in Apple platform apps.

It has three main components:

• Tokenizers: Tools for preparing input parameters for models

• Hub: Tools for downloading and managing models

• Models and Generation: Wrappers for LLMs converted to Core ML format

Version 1.0 also includes many key updates, including more independent modular design, Swift Jinja integration, and full Swift 6 support.

🛠️Swift Configuration

Many developers should be happy—Swift officially introduces a new solution for managing settings and environments. I think this is something with limitless potential.

There’s one “small downside”—iOS requires 18 or above.

New proposal for isIdentical(to:) methods, enabling O(1) comparisons for container types like Array/String/Dictionary.

🚀Swift Transformers 1.0

就在我發表 AI 模型需要高速傳輸這篇文章當天晚上，Hugging Face 宣布 Swift Transformers 正式釋出 1.0，並展望未來發展。
這個 Package 的目的是要減少開發者在 Apple 平台上使用本地 AI 模型的麻煩，並且補足了 Core ML 與 MLX 的不足。可以說是要在 Apple 平台執行第三方開源 AI 模型的必要工具。

在我看來，Swift Transformers 與 Foundation Models 的本質相近，都是在讓開發者更容易在 Apple 平台上的 app 使用 AI 模型。

主要有三個部分：

• Tokenizers: 用來準備要給模型輸入參數的工具

• Hub: 下載與管理模型的工具

• Models and Generation: LLM 轉換成 Core ML 格式後的 wrapper

• iOS 26.1 beta (23B5044l) includes Traditional Chinese Apple Intelligence. I tried it for a few days and find the writing tools most useful. Also, Siri’s operations integrated with personal ChatGPT account, allowing continued conversations in apps, is very convenient

• visionOS 26.1 beta (23N5013j)

• watchOS 26.1 beta (23S5002i)

If you’ve upgraded to macOS 26, you can try the Coding Assistant feature in Xcode 26. If you have ChatGPT or Claude subscriptions, you can log in for higher quotas and use APIs, including self-hosted local model servers.

🚀Swift 6.2 Released

Released alongside Xcode 26 is Swift 6.2. Features dozens of new capabilities including Approachable Concurrency and Safe Systems Programming.

🛠️Xcodes 3.0 Officially Released

Xcode version management tool Xcodes released version 3.0. This version’s main update is supporting Xcode 26 split into Universal and Apple Silicon versions.

Point-Free’s SwiftData alternative now supports CloudKit sync and sharing. This library was formerly called SharingGRDB. I’ve been waiting for this for months!

Apple’s new open-source package providing native execution mechanisms for Swift Concurrency across different platforms. Supports Apple’s own platforms, Linux, and Windows without depending on Dispatch or Foundation.

🔗Apple Shortcuts May Support MCP
